Patriots Rise: Ode to the Red White and Blue

Below is my poem: Patriots Rise: Ode to the Red White and Blue, written in 2017. It is a call for patriots to rise and stand for what the flag represents. This is not in blindness to the errors our country has made, as all countries do, but in respect for the ideal our nation stands for, and our role in bringing that about.

Patriots Rise:
​​Ode to the Red White and Blue

Patriots rise, and with them too
Comes waving a flag of Red, White, and Blue.

We wave it because of the meaning it brings:
A symbol of freedom from tyrants and kings.

A symbol of fighting for something more:
Fighting for good, not fighting for war;

Resisting those who would hold us down;
Uprooting those with a wrongful crown.

The flag is a symbol of fighting the fight
Against the darkness and for the light.

But standing for good requires more
Than just using weapons to fight a war.

It asks that each of us do as we should,
Standing for others. Standing for good.

Assisting when family needs a hand;
A family that lives throughout the land.

Knowing we're brothers and sisters all;
United we stand; divided we fall.

'Cross races, beliefs, and genders too,
We're one as a nation of Red, White, and Blue.

But a nation whose freedom will only come
When we live as a family; when we live as one.

Then can our nation continue the fights
Against those who threaten to take our rights;

Against kings and tyrants both hidden and seen;
Against the control of the global machine.

So stand together as we fight for what's true,
As we hold our ground for the Red, White, and Blue.
